The same two countries, travelled a dozen different ways. Start from the kind of trip you want rather than the map.
The routes most people come to us for — the ones that made our name.
The built history of India and Nepal: Mughal Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, the Rajput forts of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Amber, the temples of Khajuraho, and the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur, still being repaired after the earthquake. Heritage days need timing more than anything else. Which gate opens first, which monument shuts on a Friday, when the light falls on the right face of the building. That is the part a family that has driven these routes since 1996 is worth. These are the journeys built around what was built.Choosing a heritage tourShort on time? The same-day Taj Mahal tour from Delhi or the 4-day Golden Triangle covers the essentials. With a week or more, the Golden Triangle with Khajuraho and Varanasi adds the temple towns, and the Rajasthan Grand Circuit takes you through six fort cities. For Nepal’s temple squares, see the Nepal Cultural Odyssey. Monument tickets and local guides are not included in our price, so you pay only for the sites you choose.Every tour here is private and can be changed: your own car and driver, your own start date, no group. Tell us what you have in mind and we reply with a fixed price, usually within 24 hours. A detailed day-by-day itinerary costs €100, and the full €100 is deducted from your tour price when you book.
28 journeysTemples, bazaars, kitchens and the ordinary business of two countries getting on with it. The lanes of Old Delhi, the ghats at Varanasi before sunrise, the Newari towns of the Kathmandu valley, Lumbini where the Buddha was born, and the desert forts of Rajasthan that people still live in. Culture is the part of a trip most easily rushed. We build in the slow mornings that make it work, and we say plainly when a site deserves a licensed guide and when it is better walked alone. These are the journeys built around people and places rather than distance.Choosing a cultural tourFor a first taste, the 2-day Delhi sightseeing tour or the Amritsar and Golden Temple tour are easy to fit in. For India and Nepal together, the India–Nepal Grand Odyssey runs from the Taj Mahal to Lumbini. For somewhere few people reach, the Upper Mustang jeep tour drives to the walled town of Lo Manthang. Your driver is a driver, not a licensed guide, so where a site needs a guide we tell you before you go.Every tour here is private and can be changed: your own car and driver, your own start date, no group. Tell us what you have in mind and we reply with a fixed price, usually within 24 hours. A detailed day-by-day itinerary costs €100, and the full €100 is deducted from your tour price when you book.
28 journeysMostly Rajasthan, and mostly better than the photographs. Mehrangarh standing over the blue city of Jodhpur, the desert fort at Jaisalmer where families still live inside the walls, Amber above its lake outside Jaipur, the lake palaces of Udaipur, and Ranthambore’s ruins inside the tiger reserve. These places sit far apart and the driving between them is long. We plan the days so you arrive with hours left rather than minutes, and we tell you which forts reward a guide and which are better simply wandered. These are the journeys through fort country.Choosing a fort and palace tourWith six days, the Jodhpur and Jaisalmer desert tour focuses on the two great desert forts. With eight, the Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur tour links the pink, blue and lake cities. With twelve, the Rajasthan Grand Circuit covers six cities without rushing. Palace hotels are not included in our price; you book the rooms you like, or ask us to suggest some.Every tour here is private and can be changed: your own car and driver, your own start date, no group. 17 journeysDelhi, Agra, Jaipur. The route everyone starts with, and the one most often rushed. We run it over four, six, seven and eight days, and the difference between them is not more sights but more room to breathe. Four days is tight, and we say so. Six or seven is where the route starts to work properly. Eight lets you add Ranthambore and a chance at a tiger. Every version is private: your own car, your own driver, your own start time, and hotels you choose yourself.Which Golden Triangle tour? The 4-day tour suits a short stopover. The 6-day tour is the one we suggest most often. The 7-day luxury tour uses a roomier car, an Innova Crysta or equivalent. The 8-day tour with Ranthambore adds a tiger reserve, and the 10-day tour with Khajuraho and Varanasi continues east to the temples and the Ganga. The price covers the car, driver, fuel, tolls, state taxes and permits. Hotels, meals, monument tickets and guides are not included.Every tour here is private and can be changed: your own car and driver, your own start date, no group. 10 journeysHow hard you want to work, and what you want outside the window.
Journeys where the road between two places is the reason to go.
17 journeysWhat we mean by adventure is simple: days where the point is the doing rather than the looking. Trekking in the Annapurna and Everest regions, the jeep road to Lo Manthang, a jungle safari in Chitwan, the high passes between Shimla and Manali. Every road trip here still runs the way the rest of our work runs: your own vehicle, your own driver, no fixed departure dates and no strangers on a bus. These are the journeys with something physical in them.Choosing an adventure tourIf you want to walk, the Annapurna Base Camp trek is the gentler of our two big treks; our treks include your stay, meals, guide and permits, and flights are extra. If you would rather drive into the mountains, the Upper Mustang jeep tour reaches Lo Manthang by road, and the Shimla and Manali tour climbs into the Himalaya from Delhi. For wildlife, the Nepal wildlife safari tour spends time in Chitwan.Every tour here is private and can be changed: your own car and driver, your own start date, no group. Tell us what you have in mind and we reply with a fixed price, usually within 24 hours. A detailed day-by-day itinerary costs €100, and the full €100 is deducted from your tour price when you book.
16 journeysNational parks, riverbanks and birdlife, at the hours wildlife actually moves.
11 journeysCamel evenings in the Thar, dunes at sunset and a night under a serious quantity of stars.
7 journeysPlaces that are not on the circuit, for people who have already done the circuit.
5 journeysRoutes that go properly up, with acclimatisation days built in rather than hoped for.
4 journeysShimla, Manali, Bandipur — cool air, pine and the pace dropping by half.
4 journeysThe same country feels different depending on who is beside you.
Some journeys are about seeing. Some are about something else.
Built around light rather than opening hours — dawn at the ghats, dusk on the dunes, and time to wait.
17 journeysVaranasi, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Lumbini — the rivers and birthplaces people travel a long way to sit beside.
11 journeysPilgrimage journeys to the holy places of India and Nepal: the four shrines of the Char Dham high in Uttarakhand, the Ganga at Haridwar and Rishikesh, the Golden Temple at Amritsar, the ghats of Varanasi, and Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. Many of these roads are long and some climb steeply into the mountains, so the pace matters as much as the route. With your own car and driver you set off when you are ready, stop to rest when you need to, and spend as long at each shrine as you wish.Choosing a pilgrimage tourThe Char Dham Yatra by road is the big one: twelve days from Delhi to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The shrines open only in the warmer months, usually from about April or May until around Diwali, so ask us about dates before you plan. For something shorter, the Haridwar, Rishikesh and Mussoorie tour takes five days, and the Amritsar and Golden Temple tour takes four. The Divine Ganga Yatra follows the river through the holy cities of the foothills. Temple donations, helicopter or pony services and hotels are not included in our price.Every tour here is private and can be changed: your own car and driver, your own start date, no group. Tell us what you have in mind and we reply with a fixed price, usually within 24 hours. A detailed day-by-day itinerary costs €100, and the full €100 is deducted from your tour price when you book.
11 journeysStreet stalls, home kitchens and cooking classes, with someone beside you who knows what is safe and what is worth it.
3 journeysPractice at Rishikesh ashrams built into the itinerary rather than squeezed around it.
1 journeyWe do not have a fixed itinerary published for these, but we build them regularly. Tell us which one fits and we will put a route together.
Most people are two or three of these at once. Tell us roughly what you want and we will work out the rest.
