Golden Triangle with Ranthambore Tiger Safari 8 Days: tour overview

The Golden Triangle with the one addition most people wish they had made: Ranthambore, India's most reliable tiger park, a half day's drive from Jaipur.

You travel in your own vehicle with your own driver for all eight days, with fuel, tolls, state taxes, parking and route permits paid. The driving is timed so you reach Ranthambore with two full days there — enough for three safari drives, which gives you a real chance rather than one roll of the dice.

One thing to know: park entry and the safari drives themselves are booked separately and are not in this price. Ranthambore permits sell out months ahead, so tell us your dates early and we will arrange the drives for you at cost.

  • Length: 8 days by private car, with the same English-speaking driver throughout.
  • Price: the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore Tiger Safari 8 Days starts from $712 for the whole car, not per person.
  • Route: Day 1 of the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore Tiger Safari 8 Days: Arrive in Delhi · Old Delhi by rickshaw. Last day: Jaipur to Delhi.
  • Flexible: every day of the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore Tiger Safari 8 Days itinerary can be changed, shortened or extended.

Why add a tiger safari to the Golden Triangle

Ranthambore sits almost exactly between Agra and Jaipur, so a Golden Triangle with Ranthambore tiger safari adds very little extra driving. In return you get two nights in one of the best parks in India for seeing wild tigers, in dry forest dotted with old ruins, lakes and the walls of Ranthambore Fort.

This 8-day version gives Delhi two full days, then the Taj Mahal at sunrise before the drive to Ranthambore, a whole day with morning and afternoon safaris, and one more morning drive before Jaipur.

How the safaris work

Safaris run in the early morning and the afternoon, in open six-seat jeeps called gypsies or larger twenty-seat canters. Seats are sold through the official Rajasthan Forest Department system and need passport details for each traveller, so we book them as soon as you confirm. Three safaris give a good chance of a sighting, though nobody can promise a tiger.

Who the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore tiger safari suits

It suits families with older children, wildlife lovers and photographers, and anyone who wants nature as well as monuments on their first trip to India.

Best time for this tour

The park opens on 1 October and the main zones close for the monsoon from about July. March to June is hot but often the best time to see tigers near water. October to February is cooler and very comfortable, with cold early mornings in the open jeep.

Questions about the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore tiger safari

Will we definitely see a tiger? No one can guarantee it, but three safaris in Ranthambore give one of the best chances in India.

What should we wear on safari? Neutral colours, a hat and sunscreen, and warm layers from November to February.

Is a Golden Triangle with Ranthambore tiger safari suitable for children? Yes, for children who can sit still for three hours. Some parks set a minimum age for safaris, so tell us the ages when you book.

Can we shorten it? Yes. Our 7-day Golden Triangle with Ranthambore covers the same route at a quicker pace.

JOUR01Jour 01

Arrive in Delhi · Old Delhi by rickshaw

Your driver meets you at the airport arrivals hall holding a sign with your name, helps with the bags and takes you to your hotel. There is nothing to organise on day one: rest, or if you land before about 2 p.m., spend the afternoon in Old Delhi.

  • Arrival: Indira Gandhi International Airport to central Delhi takes 45–75 minutes depending on traffic. Your driver tracks your flight, so a late landing is not a problem.
  • Afternoon (optional): Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque (1656). Climb the southern minaret for a view over Old Delhi. Then a cycle-rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk's spice, silver and wedding-card lanes, ending at Khari Baoli, Asia's largest spice market.
  • Tickets: Jama Masjid entry is free; a camera fee of about ₹300 applies and the minaret has a small separate ticket. Rickshaw about ₹500–700 for an hour. The mosque closes to visitors during prayer times.
  • Eat: Parathas in Paranthe Wali Gali, or kebabs and mutton korma at Karim's beside Jama Masjid (since 1913).
  • Tip: Cover shoulders and knees for the mosque; robes are lent at the gate. Keep your phone in a front pocket in the crowded lanes.
  • Nuit : Delhi
JOUR02Jour 02

Delhi · Vieux Delhi et New Delhi en une journée

  • Drive: Delhi to Agra is about 230 km, 3½–4 hours on the Yamuna Expressway, with a clean rest stop halfway.
  • Late afternoon: Mehtab Bagh, the moonlight garden across the river from the Taj Mahal. You see the monument glow at sunset with almost nobody around.
  • Tickets: Humayun's Tomb about ₹600, Qutub Minar about ₹600, Mehtab Bagh about ₹300 (approx. 2026 prices for foreign visitors; Indian citizens pay much less).
  • Eat: Lunch at a highway dhaba or in Delhi before leaving. In Agra, try Mughlai food: dal makhani, mutton korma and the local sweet petha.
  • Tip: Mehtab Bagh closes at sunset, so your driver will make sure you reach Agra by 4:30 p.m. in winter.
  • Nuit : Agra
JOUR04Jour 04

The Taj Mahal in the first light, then south-west to tiger country via Akbar's abandoned capital.

  • Nuit : Ranthambore

  • Nuit : Jaipur
DAY07Day 07

Jaipur · Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal

Golden Triangle with Ranthambore Tiger Safari 8 Days: frequently asked questions

No, and treat anyone who guarantees one with suspicion. Ranthambore has one of the better sighting rates in India and two or three safaris gives you a fair chance, but it is a wild animal in a large park. You will certainly see deer, crocodiles and a great deal of birdlife.

No. Safaris are run by the forest department in their own vehicles, and cost roughly 2,500 to 4,000 rupees per person per safari depending on zone and vehicle. Private cars cannot enter the park. We drive you to the gate and wait.

As early as possible. Bookings open ninety days ahead and the better zones sell out quickly from October to March. This is the one part of the trip we genuinely urge you not to leave until arrival.

The core zones close from 1 July to 30 September for the monsoon; some buffer zones stay open. If your dates fall in that window we will tell you and suggest an alternative rather than sell you a closed park.

Non.
