Six days is the length at which Rajasthan stops being a race. Two nights in Jaipur means Amber Fort at opening and the bazaars in the evening without watching the clock. Pushkar gets a proper afternoon and evening rather than a photo stop. Ranthambore gets two safaris, which is what actually gives you a chance of a tiger.
There are only two long driving days on this route — the run out from Delhi and the run home from Ranthambore. Everything in between is three to five hours at most, which is the difference between arriving somewhere and arriving somewhere exhausted.
This is a driving tour. You choose and book your own hotels; we handle every kilometre in between.

DAY01Day 1
Delhi to Jaipur
Leave Delhi after breakfast. About five hours on good highway with a stop for tea. Arrive in Jaipur mid-afternoon and settle in. If there is light left, Nahargarh Fort above the city is the best place to watch the sun go down over the Pink City.
DAY02Day 2
Jaipur — Amber Fort and the City Palace
An early start for Amber Fort, worth reaching at opening for both the light and the quiet before the buses arrive. Then the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, the eighteenth-century observatory whose instruments still work. Hawa Mahal is best seen from the street opposite rather than from inside.
DAY03Day 3
Jaipur — the old city at your own pace
A second day in Jaipur, which is what most four-day trips cannot give you. The Johari and Bapu bazaars, the block printers and the stepwell at Panna Meena ka Kund. Galta Ji, the monkey temple in the hills east of town, if you want to get out of the city. Or simply a slow morning — it is your car and your day.
DAY04Day 4
Jaipur to Pushkar
Three hours west, arriving before lunch. Pushkar sits around a small lake ringed by fifty-two bathing ghats and is one of very few places in India with a temple to Brahma. It is a pilgrimage town, so it is vegetarian and alcohol-free, and shoes come off near the water. The afternoon and the evening aarti at the ghats are the reason to be here overnight rather than passing through.
DAY05Day 5
Pushkar to Ranthambore
The longest inland leg, about five and a half hours south-east to Sawai Madhopur. We leave early and stop properly. Arrive in the afternoon with time to settle before an early start tomorrow.
DAY06Day 6
Ranthambore safaris, then Delhi
A morning safari at around 6.30 — the best slot of the day. Breakfast afterwards, then either a second afternoon safari and a night here, or the drive back to Delhi, roughly seven hours. Tell us which you prefer and we will build the last day around it; most people take the morning safari and drive back.

Because four is a race. Four days means one night in Jaipur, a photo stop in Pushkar and no time at Ranthambore at all — you would spend more of the trip in the car than out of it. Six days adds a second Jaipur day and a real stop at the park, and leaves only two long driving days.
No, and be sceptical of anyone who promises one. Ranthambore has one of the better sighting rates in India and a morning safari gives you a fair chance, but it is a wild animal in a large park. You will certainly see deer, crocodiles and a great deal of birdlife.
No. Safaris are run by the forest department in their own vehicles and cost roughly 2,500 to 4,000 rupees per person, depending on zone and vehicle. Private cars cannot enter the park. Book as early as you can — the good zones sell out months ahead from October to March. Our driver takes you to the gate and waits.
The core zones close from 1 July to 30 September for the monsoon; some buffer zones stay open. If your dates fall in that window we will tell you and suggest a different route rather than sell you a closed park.
No. We are a driving company and we take no commission on hotel rooms, so we do not bundle them in and add a markup. You book the hotels you actually want at your own budget. If you would rather we booked them, we will, at the price we are quoted and with nothing added.
Yes. If you are flying into Jaipur we can start and finish there, which takes a day off the route and removes the longest drive. Tell us your flights and we will re-plan around them.
Roughly 35 to 50 US dollars per person across the six days for Amber Fort, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, plus the safaris separately. All paid at the gate and none of it included in our price.
November to February. October and March are fine. April to June regularly passes 40 degrees in Rajasthan and the middle of the day becomes hard work — and the park is at its hottest just before it closes.
