Tour overview

Delhi is really several cities stacked on each other, and the sights are spread over forty kilometres. Doing it by taxi app means haggling and waiting at every stop; doing it on a bus tour means twenty minutes at each. A car and driver for two days solves both.

Day one is Mughal and old — Jama Masjid, the lanes of Chandni Chowk, the Red Fort, Raj Ghat. Day two is the Delhi the British and the sultans built — Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, India Gate and the government quarter, and the Lotus Temple.

Good as a stand-alone city tour, and the usual first two days of a longer north India trip.

If you are weighing up routes, every India journey we run is listed on the India tours page, and the way our car-and-driver pricing works is explained on private car and driver in India.

Trip highlights

Jama Masjid and a walk through the Chandni Chowk lanes
Humayun's Tomb, the model the Taj Mahal was built from
Qutub Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world
Your own car waiting at every stop, in a city where that matters

Day-by-day itinerary

DAY01Day 1

Old Delhi

Jama Masjid first, then into Chandni Chowk — the spice market at Khari Baoli, the silver lanes, and the paratha alley if you want lunch there. Red Fort in the early afternoon, then Raj Ghat. If there is time and appetite, Agrasen ki Baoli, a stepwell hidden among office blocks.

DAY02Day 2

New Delhi

Humayun's Tomb in the morning while it is quiet, then Qutub Minar and the Mehrauli archaeological park beside it. Past India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhavan through the government quarter. The Lotus Temple and, if you want it, Akshardham in the late afternoon. We drop you wherever you need to be.

I travelled twice with Go India Nepal. In 2019 for 4 weeks with Babu, together with my 2 adult daughters, and in 2025 2 weeks with Suraj, together with my wife. Both trips were perfect !! Both are safe drivers, speak excellent English, and very respectful to their guests. Highly recommended.

Just finished our fantastic tour around Rajasthan and Agra with Babu. Our 17 day journey was the first time we travelled with a driver since we have been travelling to quite some places just by ourselves over the last years but thought this modality was the right option in chaotic India. This journey was a great success in many ways;…

Frequently asked questions

Real questions our travellers ask before they book, answered by the family who drives these routes.','goindianepal'); ?>

Yes. The Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb is open daily but the Red Fort and most Archaeological Survey monuments close on Mondays. The Lotus Temple also closes Mondays. Tell us your dates and we will order the two days so nothing is wasted.

No. Fees are paid at each gate — budget roughly 20 to 30 US dollars per person over the two days. Licensed guides can be hired at the major monuments, or we will arrange one in advance if you ask.

You can see the highlights of one half of the city in a day. Both halves in a day means a lot of car and very little standing still. If you only have a day we would do Old Delhi properly plus Humayun's Tomb, and skip Qutub.

Yes — it is crowded, noisy and completely ordinary. Watch your bag as you would in any dense market, and keep to the main lanes. A cycle rickshaw through the narrow sections is worth doing and costs very little.

Drivers wait with the vehicle and are not guides — that is a licensed role and different work. Your driver will drop you at the right gate, tell you where the ticket counter is, and be waiting when you come out.

Yes. Tell us your flight and we will meet you at arrivals with a name board at no extra charge if the tour starts that day. Layover tours are possible too — send us your times.

October to March. April and May are very hot, and June before the monsoon is worse. Delhi's air quality is at its poorest from late October to January; if that concerns you, February and March are the sweet spot.
