Golden Triangle Tour 6 Days: tour overview

The same three cities as our four-day trip, with two more days and considerably less rushing. A full day in Jaipur instead of half, a proper morning at Fatehpur Sikri, and time to sit somewhere and watch a city work.

Private throughout: your own air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking driver for the whole route, with fuel, tolls, state and interstate taxes, parking and route permits all covered. Where you sleep and what you see is entirely your call — your driver takes you to it.

What is not included — hotels, meals, guides, monument tickets — is deliberate. Most travellers want to choose their own rooms and eat where they like, and paying an agency to book a hotel you could book yourself is money wasted. If you would rather we arranged all of it, we will. Ask when you enquire and we will quote it alongside the itinerary.

We are a family business and we have been driving these roads for thirty years.

If you are weighing up routes, every India journey we run is listed on the India tours page, and the way our car-and-driver pricing works is explained on private car and driver in India.

Golden Triangle Tour 6 Days at a glance

  • Length: 6 days by private car, with the same English-speaking driver throughout.
  • Price: the Golden Triangle Tour 6 Days starts from $534 for the whole car, not per person.
  • Route: Day 1 of the Golden Triangle Tour 6 Days: Arrive in Delhi. Last day: Jaipur to Delhi.
  • Flexible: every day of the Golden Triangle Tour 6 Days itinerary can be changed, shortened or extended.

Why six days is the right length for a Golden Triangle tour

Six days is the length we recommend most often. It gives Delhi a full day of its own, so you see both the old city and Lutyens' New Delhi without rushing. It lets you reach Agra in time for the fort and the sunset from Mehtab Bagh, then see the Taj Mahal at sunrise the next morning. And it gives Jaipur a whole day for Amber Fort, the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal.

A 6-day Golden Triangle tour also leaves room for jet lag on the first day and a calm drive back to Delhi on the last, so no day feels like a race.

Who this Golden Triangle tour suits

It suits first-time visitors to India, couples, families with children and older travellers who want a steady pace. The longest drive is about five hours, broken by Fatehpur Sikri, and the car and driver stay with you for local sightseeing in each city.

Ways to change this Golden Triangle tour

  • Add two nights in Ranthambore for tiger safaris between Agra and Jaipur.
  • Add Udaipur or Jodhpur after Jaipur and fly back to Delhi.
  • Add Varanasi at the end, with a short flight from Delhi or Agra.
  • End in Jaipur and fly out from there instead of driving back.

Best time for a Golden Triangle tour

October to March is ideal. Winter mornings in Delhi and Agra can be foggy in late December and January, which can slow the drives. April to June is hot, and July to September brings monsoon rain but fewer crowds.

Questions about the Golden Triangle tour

Is the Taj Mahal open every day? No, it is closed on Fridays. We plan your 6-day Golden Triangle tour so the sunrise visit falls on another day.

How long are the drives on a Golden Triangle tour? Delhi to Agra is about four hours, Agra to Jaipur about five with stops, and Jaipur to Delhi about five to six.

Is a Golden Triangle tour suitable for children? Yes. The private car means you set the pace, take breaks and stop for food whenever you need to.

Can we book hotels ourselves? Yes. You can book your own, or we include hand-picked hotels in one price.

  • Midday: Raj Ghat, the simple memorial where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated.

An unhurried morning, the expressway, and Agra's great fort before your first view of the Taj Mahal at sunset.

  • Drive: Delhi to Agra is about 230 km, 3½–4 hours on the Yamuna Expressway.

The Taj Mahal in the first light, then Akbar's abandoned capital on the road to the Pink City.

  • Early morning: Leave the hotel at about 5:45 a.m. The Taj Mahal opens 30 minutes before sunrise; allow 2–2½ hours. Back for breakfast and check-out.
  • Midday: Fatehpur Sikri (40 km), about 1½ hours: the palace courtyards, the Panch Mahal and the Buland Darwaza. Optional stop at the Abhaneri stepwell.
  • Drive: Agra to Jaipur is about 240 km; with stops plan 6–7 hours.
  • Evening: Arrive in Jaipur at about 5–6 p.m.

  • Overnight: Jaipur
DAY05Day 05

Jaipur · Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal

A full day in the Pink City, planned to beat the heat and the queues: the hill fort first thing, the old city in the middle of the day, and the bazaars when the light softens.

  • 8:00 a.m.: Amber Fort as the gates open, before the tour buses. Allow 2–2½ hours for the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), the Ganesh Pol gate and the zenana courtyards. A licensed guide is worth hiring here.
  • On the way down: Panna Meena ka Kund, a geometric stepwell 5 minutes from the fort, and a photo stop at Jal Mahal, the palace in the lake.
  • Midday: The City Palace (still home to the royal family) and next door Jantar Mantar, the 18th-century astronomical observatory, now a UNESCO site. About 2½ hours for both.
  • Afternoon: The Hawa Mahal, the 'Palace of the Winds', best seen from the cafés on the rooftop opposite; go inside if you want to look out through the latticed windows.
  • Evening: Sunset at Nahargarh Fort on the ridge, or an evening in Johari and Bapu bazaars for textiles, block prints and silver.
  • Tickets: Amber Fort about ₹500, City Palace about ₹700, Jantar Mantar about ₹200, Hawa Mahal about ₹200 (approx. 2026 prices for foreign visitors; Indian citizens pay much less). A composite ticket covers several state monuments for two days.
  • Eat: Lunch: dal baati churma or a Rajasthani thali near the City Palace. Evening: lassi at Lassiwala on MI Road, or a full village-style dinner at Chokhi Dhani outside the city.
  • Tip: Please avoid the elephant ride at Amber; your driver takes you up by car or jeep. In the shops, prices are always negotiable, and your driver earns no commission from us: shop only where you want.
  • Overnight: Jaipur
DAY06Day 06

Jaipur to Delhi

A last relaxed morning in Jaipur, then the expressway back to Delhi for your hotel or flight.

  • Morning: Free for last shopping, the Albert Hall Museum or Galta Ji, the 'monkey temple' in the hills.
  • Drive: Jaipur to Delhi is about 270 km, 4½–5 hours. Delhi airport drop works for flights leaving after about 7 p.m.
  • Eat: Lunch on the road at a highway food plaza.
  • Tip: Tell your driver your flight time on day one; he plans the departure from Jaipur with a comfortable margin for Delhi traffic.
  • Overnight: Delhi, or your flight home

Golden Triangle Tour 6 Days: frequently asked questions

Real questions our travellers ask before they book, answered by the family who drives these routes.

Time. Six days means a full day in Delhi, an unhurried Agra with the option of both sunrise and sunset at the Taj, Fatehpur Sikri properly rather than in passing, and two nights in Jaipur instead of one. The driving is the same; the standing still is not.

No. We are a driving company — our income is the vehicle and the driver, not commission on hotel rooms. You book the hotels you actually want at your own budget. If you would rather we booked them, we will, at the price we are quoted and with nothing added.

The private air-conditioned vehicle for the whole route, your driver every day, all fuel, every road toll and interstate tax, parking at each stop, any route permits, and the driver's own meals and accommodation. Nothing else.

Yes — it closes to tourists every Friday for prayers. Agra Fort stays open. If your dates land on a Friday we will reorder the itinerary so you do not lose the Taj, and we will tell you before you book, not after.

Yes. One vehicle and one driver stay with you from the first day to the last. We never combine parties or hand you between drivers.

The Taj Mahal is currently around 1,300 rupees for foreign visitors including the mausoleum, Agra Fort and the Jaipur monuments are less. Across a Golden Triangle trip, budget roughly 40 to 60 US dollars per person. All paid at the gate.

Not in the price. Guides are licensed and hired at each monument, usually 1,500 to 2,500 rupees. Our driver will take you to the official guide desk rather than to a tout, and we will pre-arrange a guide if you ask us to.

October to March. April and May are very hot across all three cities and June before the monsoon is worse. February and March are our own favourite weeks on this route.
