Southern Rajasthan from Udaipur: tour overview

Udaipur is the best base in southern Rajasthan, and this loop shows you what lies in the hills around it.

Kumbhalgarh is a mountain fortress with walls said to run for 36 km. Ranakpur has a Jain temple of almost unbelievable carving. Mount Abu, Rajasthan's only hill station, is cooler, greener and home to the Dilwara temples, whose marble work rivals the Taj Mahal.

It starts and ends in Udaipur, which has flights to Delhi and Mumbai, and it works well as an add-on to any Golden Triangle tour. More Rajasthan routes, from short first trips to the full desert circuit, are on our Rajasthan tours page.

Southern Rajasthan from Udaipur: frequently asked questions

Real questions our travellers ask before they book, answered by the family who drives these routes.

Yes. Many guests fly from Delhi or Jaipur to Udaipur and take this loop as the second half of their trip.

Ranakpur and Dilwara both admit non-Jain visitors from around midday, and photography rules differ. Your driver plans the day around the opening times.

Cooler than the plains, yes, which makes it the one part of Rajasthan that suits April and May.
