Every November, thousands of camels, horses and cattle and the families who trade them gather on the dunes outside Pushkar. The fair builds to the full moon of Kartik Purnima, when pilgrims bathe in the holy lake.
The 2026 fair is scheduled for 17 to 24 November. The trading is busiest in the days before the official programme begins, and the religious crowds peak at the end, so we time your two days at the fair to suit what you most want to see.
Hotel and camp prices in Pushkar rise sharply for the fair and rooms sell out, so book as early as you can. More Rajasthan routes, from short first trips to the full desert circuit, are on our Rajasthan tours page.

Pushkar Camel Fair Tour 2026 itinerary, day by day
DAY01Day 1
Delhi to Jaipur · City Palace and Hawa Mahal
An easy first day on the new expressway, arriving in Jaipur in time for lunch and a gentle start to Rajasthan.
Morning: Pick-up from your Delhi hotel or the airport at about 8 a.m.
Drive: Delhi to Jaipur is about 270 km, 4½–5 hours with a tea stop.
Afternoon: After lunch, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, then the Hawa Mahal from the rooftop café opposite.
Tickets: Nahargarh Fort about ₹200 (approx. 2026 prices for foreign visitors; Indian citizens pay much less). City Palace about ₹700 if visited today.
Eat: Lunch at Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar (LMB) in Johari Bazaar, a Jaipur institution for generations, or Rawat for the famous pyaaz kachori.
Tip: Jaipur's old city is walled and pink by law. Your driver knows where to park, so you never have to walk far in the heat.
Overnight: Jaipur
DAY02Day 2
Jaipur · Amber Fort, Jantar Mantar, bazaars and Nahargarh sunset
A full day in the Pink City, planned to beat the heat and the queues: the hill fort first thing, the old city in the middle of the day, and the bazaars when the light softens.
8:00 a.m.: Amber Fort as the gates open, before the tour buses. Allow 2–2½ hours for the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), the Ganesh Pol gate and the zenana courtyards. A licensed guide is worth hiring here.
On the way down: Panna Meena ka Kund, a geometric stepwell 5 minutes from the fort, and a photo stop at Jal Mahal, the palace in the lake.
Midday: The City Palace (still home to the royal family) and next door Jantar Mantar, the 18th-century astronomical observatory, now a UNESCO site. About 2½ hours for both.
Afternoon: The Hawa Mahal, the 'Palace of the Winds', best seen from the cafés on the rooftop opposite; go inside if you want to look out through the latticed windows.
Evening: Sunset at Nahargarh Fort above the city.
Tickets: Amber Fort about ₹500, City Palace about ₹700, Jantar Mantar about ₹200, Hawa Mahal about ₹200 (approx. 2026 prices for foreign visitors; Indian citizens pay much less). A composite ticket covers several state monuments for two days.
Eat: Lunch: dal baati churma or a Rajasthani thali near the City Palace. Evening: lassi at Lassiwala on MI Road, or a full village-style dinner at Chokhi Dhani outside the city.
Tip: Please avoid the elephant ride at Amber; your driver takes you up by car or jeep. In the shops, prices are always negotiable, and your driver earns no commission from us: shop only where you want.
Overnight: Jaipur
DAY03Day 3
Jaipur to Pushkar · first evening at the fair
Into the camel fair: tens of thousands of camels, horses and herders on the dunes around a holy lake.
Drive: Jaipur to Pushkar is about 145 km, 3 hours (allow longer during the fair). Leave at 9 a.m.
Afternoon: Check in to your tented camp, then walk to the fair ground: trading in the dunes, decorated camels, the Ferris wheel and the stalls.
Evening: Aarti at the main ghats as the lamps are floated on the lake.
Eat: Pushkar is vegetarian and alcohol-free. Fair stalls sell fresh jalebi and malpua.
Tip: Rooms and tents fill a year ahead for the fair. We book yours the day you confirm.
Overnight: Pushkar fair camp
DAY04Day 4
Pushkar Camel Fair · sunrise among the herds
The best day of the fair for photographers and for anyone who loves a spectacle.
6:00 a.m.: Sunrise in the herders' camps on the dunes, with smoke from cooking fires and camels against the sun. The best light of the day.
Late morning: The mela ground: camel races, the 'longest moustache' contest, turban tying and folk music (the programme changes daily).
Afternoon: Rest at camp in the heat.
Evening: Aarti at the ghats, then cultural performances at the fair stage.
Tip: Ask before photographing people; a small tip is normal. Keep valuables close in the crowds.
Overnight: Pushkar fair camp
DAY05Day 5
Pushkar Camel Fair · Brahma temple and the Savitri hill
A second, slower day at the fair and the holy sights of Pushkar.
Morning: The fair ground again, then the Brahma temple.
Afternoon: The Savitri temple on the hill by ropeway, for the view over the whole fair.
Evening: Last aarti and the bazaar.
Tickets: Savitri ropeway about ₹150–200 return.
Overnight: Pushkar fair camp
DAY06Day 6
Pushkar to Delhi
Back to the capital, or to Jaipur airport.
Morning: Check-out at about 8 a.m.
Drive: Pushkar to Delhi is about 400 km, 6–7 hours. Or drop at Jaipur airport, about 2½–3 hours.

Pushkar Camel Fair Tour 2026: frequently asked questions
Real questions our travellers ask before they book, answered by the family who drives these routes.
The fair is scheduled for 17 to 24 November 2026, ending on the Kartik Purnima full moon. Rajasthan Tourism publishes the official programme shortly before, and dates can shift slightly.
For camel trading and photography, the first days or the week before. For festivities and the holy bathing, the last days. Tell us which matters more and we will time it.
Yes. Pushkar is a holy town, so meat, eggs and alcohol are not served, and you should dress modestly and remove shoes at the ghats.
