Rajasthan Tour 6 Days: tour overview

Six days is the length at which Rajasthan stops being a race. Two nights in Jaipur means Amber Fort at opening and the bazaars in the evening without watching the clock. Pushkar gets a proper afternoon and evening rather than a photo stop. Ranthambore gets two safaris, which is what actually gives you a chance of a tiger.

There are only two long driving days on this route — the run out from Delhi and the run home from Ranthambore. Everything in between is three to five hours at most, which is the difference between arriving somewhere and arriving somewhere exhausted.

This is a driving tour. You choose and book your own hotels; we handle every kilometre in between.

More Rajasthan routes, from a short first trip to the full desert circuit, are on our Rajasthan tours page. If you would rather build your own route, every journey we run is on the India tours page.

Rajasthan Tour 6 Days at a glance

  • Length: 6 days by private car, with the same English-speaking driver throughout.
  • Price: the Rajasthan Tour 6 Days starts from $534 for the whole car, not per person.
  • Route: Day 1 of the Rajasthan Tour 6 Days: Delhi to Jaipur · Nahargarh sunset. Last day: Ranthambore safaris, then Delhi.
  • Flexible: every day of the Rajasthan Tour 6 Days itinerary can be changed, shortened or extended.

Why this short Rajasthan tour works

Six days is short for Rajasthan, so this Rajasthan tour focuses on three very different places that sit close together. Jaipur gives you the forts and palaces. Pushkar is a small holy town around a lake, with ghats, temples and a relaxed bazaar. Ranthambore adds tiger safaris in dry forest. The drives between them are three to four hours, so you spend your time seeing places, not sitting in the car.

Who this Rajasthan tour suits

It suits travellers who have already seen Agra, people adding Rajasthan to a business trip in Delhi, and anyone who wants a taste of the state before a longer return trip. If you have more time, the 12-day Rajasthan Grand Circuit adds Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Udaipur.

Best time for a Rajasthan tour

October to March is the best season, with warm days and cool nights. The Pushkar camel fair falls in October or November, depending on the moon. Ranthambore's main zones open on 1 October and close for the monsoon from about July. From April to June, Rajasthan is very hot, often above 40°C.

What to pack

  • Light layers for the day and a warm jacket for early safaris in winter.
  • Comfortable shoes you can slip off easily at temples and on the ghats in Pushkar.
  • Clothes that cover shoulders and knees for temples.
  • Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.

Questions about this Rajasthan tour

Can we add the Taj Mahal to this Rajasthan tour? Yes. Agra is about five hours from Ranthambore, so adding one night there turns this into a seven-day trip.

Is Pushkar vegetarian? Yes. It is a holy town, so meat, eggs and alcohol are not served.

How many safaris do we get in Ranthambore? Usually two, an afternoon and the next morning. We can add a third if you stay an extra night.

Can we choose our hotels? Yes. You can book your own, or we include hotels at the level you want in one price for the whole Rajasthan tour.

Rajasthan Tour 6 Days itinerary, day by day

DAY01Day 1

Delhi to Jaipur · Nahargarh sunset

An easy first day on the new expressway, arriving in Jaipur in time for lunch and a gentle start to Rajasthan.

  • Morning: Pick-up from your Delhi hotel or the airport at about 8 a.m.
  • Drive: Delhi to Jaipur is about 270 km, 4½–5 hours with a tea stop.
  • Afternoon: Check in and rest. At about 4:30 p.m. drive up to Nahargarh Fort on the ridge for sunset over the Pink City; stay for a drink at the fort café as the city lights come on.
  • Tickets: Nahargarh Fort about ₹200 (approx. 2026 prices for foreign visitors; Indian citizens pay much less). City Palace about ₹700 if visited today.
  • Eat: Lunch at Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar (LMB) in Johari Bazaar, a Jaipur institution for generations, or Rawat for the famous pyaaz kachori.
  • Tip: Jaipur's old city is walled and pink by law. Your driver knows where to park, so you never have to walk far in the heat.
  • Overnight: Jaipur
DAY02Day 2

Jaipur · Amber Fort and the City Palace

A full day in the Pink City, planned to beat the heat and the queues: the hill fort first thing, the old city in the middle of the day, and the bazaars when the light softens.

  • 8:00 a.m.: Amber Fort as the gates open, before the tour buses. Allow 2–2½ hours for the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), the Ganesh Pol gate and the zenana courtyards. A licensed guide is worth hiring here.
  • On the way down: Panna Meena ka Kund, a geometric stepwell 5 minutes from the fort, and a photo stop at Jal Mahal, the palace in the lake.
  • Midday: The City Palace (still home to the royal family) and next door Jantar Mantar, the 18th-century astronomical observatory, now a UNESCO site. About 2½ hours for both.
  • Afternoon: The Hawa Mahal, the 'Palace of the Winds', best seen from the cafés on the rooftop opposite; go inside if you want to look out through the latticed windows.
  • Evening: Sunset at Nahargarh Fort on the ridge, or an evening in Johari and Bapu bazaars for textiles, block prints and silver.
  • Tickets: Amber Fort about ₹500, City Palace about ₹700, Jantar Mantar about ₹200, Hawa Mahal about ₹200 (approx. 2026 prices for foreign visitors; Indian citizens pay much less). A composite ticket covers several state monuments for two days.
  • Eat: Lunch: dal baati churma or a Rajasthani thali near the City Palace. Evening: lassi at Lassiwala on MI Road, or a full village-style dinner at Chokhi Dhani outside the city.
  • Tip: Please avoid the elephant ride at Amber; your driver takes you up by car or jeep. In the shops, prices are always negotiable, and your driver earns no commission from us: shop only where you want.
  • Overnight: Jaipur
DAY03Day 3

Jaipur · the old city at your own pace

A slower second day in the Pink City, for the sights most visitors miss.

  • Morning: Galta Ji, the temple complex in a rocky gorge with natural spring tanks and many monkeys, 30 minutes from the old city. Then the Albert Hall Museum, Jaipur's oldest, in its Indo-Saracenic building.
  • Afternoon: A block-printing workshop at Sanganer or Bagru (try printing a scarf yourself), or a cooking class in a family home.
  • Evening: Patrika Gate at Jawahar Circle for photos, then dinner at Chokhi Dhani, a village-style folk evening outside the city.
  • Tickets: Albert Hall about ₹300 (approx. 2026 prices for foreign visitors; Indian citizens pay much less); Galta Ji free.
  • Tip: Bring small notes for donations at the temples.
  • Overnight: Jaipur
DAY04Day 4

Jaipur to Pushkar · the holy lake and Savitri temple

From the city to one of India's oldest pilgrim towns: a small white town of 52 ghats around a sacred lake, with the desert just beyond.

  • Drive: Jaipur to Pushkar is about 145 km, 2½–3 hours via Ajmer. Leave at about 9 a.m.
  • Afternoon: Walk the ghats and the main bazaar, then the Brahma temple, one of very few in the world dedicated to the creator god.
  • Sunset: The Savitri temple on the hill above town, by ropeway (5 minutes) or on foot (about 45 minutes). The view over the lake and the dunes at sunset is the best in Pushkar.
  • Evening: Aarti, the evening prayer with lamps and bells, at the main ghats.
  • Tickets: Brahma temple free; Savitri ropeway about ₹150–200 return.
  • Eat: Pushkar is strictly vegetarian and alcohol-free. Try malpua (sweet fried pancakes) at the bazaar and a rooftop café overlooking the lake.
  • Tip: At the ghats, men may offer you flowers for a 'blessing' and then ask for a large donation. Smile and say no thank you; your driver will warn you where. Shoes off and no photographs near the water.
  • Overnight: Pushkar
DAY05Day 5

Pushkar to Ranthambore · into tiger country

A long but easy drive from the holy lake to the jungle.

  • Morning: Sunrise walk by the lake, breakfast, check-out at about 9 a.m.
  • Drive: Pushkar to Ranthambore is about 280 km, 5–5½ hours via Ajmer and Tonk.
  • Evening: Arrive at your jungle lodge in time to settle in; dinner by the fire.
  • Tip: Safari permits are booked in advance; give us your passport details when you confirm.
  • Overnight: Ranthambore
DAY06Day 6

Ranthambore safaris, then Delhi

A dawn safari, then the expressway back to the capital.

  • 6:30 a.m.: Morning safari, about 3½ hours.
  • Drive: Ranthambore to Delhi is about 380 km, 5–6 hours on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. Leave around 11 a.m.
  • Drop: Your Delhi hotel or the airport (flights after about 9 p.m.).
  • Tickets: Safari permits are sold online by the Rajasthan Forest Department and sell out weeks ahead in peak season. We book them as soon as you confirm, using your passport details. Expect roughly ₹2,000–3,000 per person per safari in a shared Gypsy for foreign visitors.
  • Overnight: Delhi, or your flight home

Rajasthan Tour 6 Days: frequently asked questions

Real questions our travellers ask before they book, answered by the family who drives these routes.

Because four is a race. Four days means one night in Jaipur, a photo stop in Pushkar and no time at Ranthambore at all — you would spend more of the trip in the car than out of it. Six days adds a second Jaipur day and a real stop at the park, and leaves only two long driving days.

No, and be sceptical of anyone who promises one. Ranthambore has one of the better sighting rates in India and a morning safari gives you a fair chance, but it is a wild animal in a large park. You will certainly see deer, crocodiles and a great deal of birdlife.

No. Safaris are run by the forest department in their own vehicles and cost roughly 2,500 to 4,000 rupees per person, depending on zone and vehicle. Private cars cannot enter the park. Book as early as you can — the good zones sell out months ahead from October to March. Our driver takes you to the gate and waits.

The core zones close from 1 July to 30 September for the monsoon; some buffer zones stay open. If your dates fall in that window we will tell you and suggest a different route rather than sell you a closed park.

No. We are a driving company and we take no commission on hotel rooms, so we do not bundle them in and add a markup. You book the hotels you actually want at your own budget. If you would rather we booked them, we will, at the price we are quoted and with nothing added.

Yes. If you are flying into Jaipur we can start and finish there, which takes a day off the route and removes the longest drive. Tell us your flights and we will re-plan around them.

Roughly 35 to 50 US dollars per person across the six days for Amber Fort, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, plus the safaris separately. All paid at the gate and none of it included in our price.

November to February. October and March are fine. April to June regularly passes 40 degrees in Rajasthan and the middle of the day becomes hard work — and the park is at its hottest just before it closes.
