Tour overview

Chitwan is the reason to come. The park holds one of the densest populations of greater one-horned rhino anywhere, along with Bengal tiger, sloth bear, gharial and more than five hundred bird species. This itinerary gives you two full days there.

Either side of the park it covers the two places most travellers to Nepal actually remember: the Kathmandu Valley's temple cities, and Pokhara under the Annapurnas. You travel privately throughout — your own vehicle and driver, with fuel, tolls, road taxes and route permits paid.

Park entry fees, the safari drives and the canoe are booked separately and are not in this price. We arrange them for you at cost when you tell us your dates.

What is not included — hotels, meals, guides, monument tickets — is deliberate. Most travellers want to choose their own rooms and eat where they like, and paying an agency to book a hotel you could book yourself is money wasted. If you would rather we arranged all of it, we will. Ask when you enquire and we will quote it alongside the itinerary.

We are a family business and we have been driving these roads for thirty years.

Our other Nepal routes — the Kathmandu valley, Pokhara, Chitwan and Mustang — are on the Nepal tours page. If you want to cross the border and see both countries in one trip, that is the India and Nepal page.

I travelled twice with Go India Nepal. In 2019 for 4 weeks with Babu, together with my 2 adult daughters, and in 2025 2 weeks with Suraj, together with my wife. Both trips were perfect !! Both are safe drivers, speak excellent English, and very respectful to their guests. Highly recommended.

Just finished our fantastic tour around Rajasthan and Agra with Babu. Our 17 day journey was the first time we travelled with a driver since we have been travelling to quite some places just by ourselves over the last years but thought this modality was the right option in chaotic India. This journey was a great success in many ways;…

Frequently asked questions

Real questions our travellers ask before they book, answered by the family who drives these routes.','goindianepal'); ?>

Very probably. Chitwan has a healthy one-horned rhino population and sightings on jeep safaris and canoe trips are common — far more reliable than tiger sightings, which are rare and should not be your expectation. You will also see deer, gharial and crocodile, wild boar and a great many birds.

No. Chitwan National Park charges an entry fee per person per day, and jeep safaris, canoe trips and the elephant breeding centre are each booked and paid separately in Sauraha. We drive you there, take you to the park office, and wait.

We do not book them, and we will say why: the welfare record is poor. Jeep safaris and walking safaris see as much, and the elephant breeding centre lets you see the animals without riding them. If you want an elephant ride you can arrange it locally, but it will not come from us.

February to April, after the tall elephant grass has been cut, is when visibility in the park is highest. October and November are also good and cooler. The park has restricted access during the monsoon and the grass is head-height, which makes spotting hard.

No. On our Nepal road tours the price covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel, tolls and road taxes, parking and permits. Kathmandu, Pokhara and Sauraha all have accommodation from very cheap to genuinely luxurious, and we take no commission on rooms — so you choose. We will book on your behalf at cost if you prefer.

Kathmandu to Pokhara is around six to seven hours on a road that is scenic but slow and often busy with trucks. Pokhara to Chitwan is about five hours. These are honest figures; anyone quoting you four hours to Pokhara has not driven it recently.

Kathmandu to Pokhara takes twenty-five minutes by air and there are several flights daily. Many travellers fly one way and drive the other, which we think is a sensible compromise. We will meet you at either airport and price it either way.

From Pokhara, on a clear morning, Machhapuchhre and the Annapurnas sit right above the lake and it is remarkable. In haze you will see very little. October to December gives the clearest air; Sarangkot at dawn is the classic viewpoint and we will drive you up for it.

October and November are the clearest and busiest. March to May is warm with rhododendron in flower and more haze. The monsoon from June to September brings cloud and landslide risk on the mountain roads. December to February is cold and clear at altitude but fine in Chitwan and Pokhara.

Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport or at the land borders — 15, 30 or 90 day options, paid in cash or card. Bring a passport photo to save time. Visa cost is never included in our prices.
